Namibia

After two solid days of driving to go eight hours, we crossed into the country of Namibia.

The first night we stayed in the Orange River Canyon area. A nice river and decent views, but too cold to do anything wet. Did I mention Africa is freaking cold. Whats up with that?

My first Africa animals on this trip. Springbok. Soon they became “oh, Springbok, kind of exciting like seeing another dirt road in Namibia.” Okay, for those back home, it became as exciting as seeing telephone poles. WHoopeee.

Fish River Canyon is supposedly like the second deepest canyon, but coming from South America and seeing Colca Canyon which was thought to be the deepest and then they found a new one a few hundred kilometers north which made Colca actually the second. So, I am not sure if Fish River falls truly into second or possible third. Anyways, after so much time looking in canyons, it wasn’t a life changing experience. All three of us pretty much took a look and then dived into the guide book to see what was next. Luckily, the guard at the gate was looking to fund his kids through college and let us pay the discount rate that locals pay, as long as we “didn’t need a receipt.”
