Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Photos: Isla de Ometepe

The ferry ride over to Moyogalpa. For a lake, it can generate some viscious swells.

Just as advertised two volcano island in the middle of a massive freshwater lake.

The exact boat I went on. This was taken on the way back no weird time dimensional photo taking.

Concepcion (1610M) and Maderas (1394M).

Tilapia is the fish of the day. Great stuff. Not quite as good as the the salted bbq perch in Laos, but this had better side dishes.

The view from the village of Moyogalpa.

Good old Pinatas. Should have waited for the candy to come.

The gang. From left Bryce, ex-firejumper from Virginia soon to be lawyer. Our local friend who was trying to learn English so he could pick up a blonde girl. Sergio the big girl lovin, non weed smoking Hollander. Our cutey 16 year old waitress working for her grandma for the festival month. Brom, Belgiumite who works with street and abused kids back home and throughout his world travels. And me the slacker.

Night walk wildlife. I never got to see any of the poison dart frogs in Costa Rica. If I don´t get to see any in the other countries I will use good old Photoshop on this guy.

Breakfast on the beach Christmas day.

Ojos de Agua (Eyes of water). Basically a pristine natural pool of water in the middle of the jungle. Nice.

A break for a photo with the usual volcano sticking up in the background. Kind of hard to miss the fellows.

My world class diving skills. Instead of busting ass up a volcano to see a dried out waterfall it was splash time. A great choice.

The waterfall entrance and where Bryce and Sergio headed up to nothing.

My mono impression. Mono = monkey. Bananas saved my life after that treacherous ride.

Getting ready to head back as the sun was setting.

A couple of photos from our free day walking tour of the other side of the island. With of course volcanos.

Wildlife on the volcano. Some sort of Burgundy monkey.

There are three monkeys in this photo, can you find them?

Heres a hint.

A shot from half way up the volcano. You can see the strip that connects the two volcanoes. Half way on the left is where we stayed in Santo Domingo Beach.

The final ride back to the mainland.

Merry Christmas Island style with a twist. Isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua.

After a month and a couple of Central American countries I was getting the sneeking suspicion that this stretch was going to get a bit routine rather quickly. As the Central is relatively narrow and the countries somewhat small, ... [Continue reading this entry]
